This year-round opportunity for service is available for construction volunteers to join Kira Concerns in a project intended to establish a community center that will contribute towards positive development to address some of the health and education challenges related to urban development in Kira Municipality.
Kira Concerns is a social initiative that is planning to set up a community space that will accommodate a medical facility, library, resource center, and recreational ground. The initiative has set aside 4 Acres of land for this social cause and is currently seeking development partnerships in order to continue with on-going project activities as part of phase 1 to construct the community library and resource center.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
LOCATION
This project is located in Kira Municipality is located in Wakiso District, Central Uganda Buganda Region approximately 10kms from Kampala City the Capital of Uganda, with an estimated population of 462,900 people.
ARRIVAL & AIRPORT PICKUP
After you have booked and confirmed your placement, please book your flight and notify our coordinator of your arrival date. You will arrive in Uganda through Entebbe International Airport and will be received by our representative who will be at hand to drive you to what will be your home during your placement.
ORIENTATION
We will arrange for pre-arrival orientation before you arrive to take up your placement as well as ground preparation that includes introduction to the local community and project site, a day after arrival.
PROJECT DETAILS
This project is ideal for everyone aged 18 to 55+! You don’t need any previous experience in the construction sector, though you should be physically fit to match with the demands of the placement. We will do everything within our programs to ensure that you are immersed in the host community in order to experience the underlying social realities and be a part of the change that these people are working hard to realize.
You will engage in: Site Preparation that involves; demolition, digging foundations, clearing rubble, etc. as well as Building (Mixing and pouring concrete, bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing, etc.).
You will be working from Monday to Friday in a small team of like-minded international volunteers alongside local personnel. The day-to-day work program will vary according to the time of your visit and the stage of the project works. Whatever your contribution, this is a worthy project that deserves your attention because of its potential to create so much change to so many people that would otherwise have no access to the programs that are intended upon completion of each phase.
GROUP VOLUNTEERS
We welcome group to join in on the action! Get yourselves together into a group from your neighborhood, school or work and embark on a social cause in a developing community in Uganda.
WEEKENDS AND FREE-TIME
Over the weekends or evenings, participants are free to eat out and explore the different destination Uganda has to offer. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend safaris.
